Picket Fences and Gates for Melbourne

At Matthews Industries our picket fences and gates are second to none. We take great pride in the quality of our workmanship regarding all our picket and garden fences. With 20 years in the fencing industry we’re convinced our prices for all our picket fences are competitive in comparison to all.

All our feature posts for a picket fence are set 600mm into the ground ensuring rigidity and strength. Our feature posts have deep mortices for both rails and plinth boards which not only enhance the look of your fence but protect its life. All nails used by Matthews Industries are galvanised ensuring both the life and appearance of the garden fence we construct. Enamel pink priming of your picket fence is an additional service we also offer, protecting the life and look of your garden fence. This is done prior to the hanging of the fence so you can be assured timber won’t be exposed to weather. Other associated services which are offered to clients who purchase a feature fence are paling fencing and concreting.

We offer a wide range of styles for clients regarding post capitals, cut-outs, handrails, pickets, letterboxes and hardware. Our feature posts also come in a range of sizes starting from 115mm sq. through to 200mm sq. in Cypress Gold, Merbau or Spotted Gum, depending on availability.

Whether the style of your home is Edwardian, Federation, Victorian, Californian Bungalow or a Modern design we can either work to drawings or help in the process of designing a picket or garden fence that is in keeping with the style and period of your home. It’s important to not simply import a picket fence design -though it maybe correct to the period it won’t necessarily be in keeping with the look of your home or neighbourhood.

At Matthews Industries we pride ourselves on quality workmanship at a fair price. We’ve been in the fencing industry for some 20 odd years, and know how to deliver quality work at the right price.

All our paling fences come with extras that you may not be aware of – as the old adage goes, “oils ain’t oils” and neither are fences. All 1.9m & 2.1m high fences have 2.7m posts which are set no less than 600mm into the ground with a wet mix consisting of half a 20kg bag of cement and soil. Because we use the longer posts we don’t have to skimp at the top of the fence or shorten the depth of the hole. These extras ensure a sturdier fence that will last many years.

When fixing rails to the posts we use 90mm framing gal. nails and at each fixing point, no less than two nails. Our plinth boards are fixed using 75mm framing gal. nails, at each point no less than three nails are used. Base palings are fixed using a 50mm gal. twisted shank nail onto all three rails, and the overlapping palings are fixed with 55mm gal. twisted shank nails, twice to each rail.

When comparing quotes there’s more to consider than just the price -if you’re after a quality job that will stand the test of time we’re the company for you!

Note: The service of paling fencing is only offered to clients that are also purchasing a picket fence, garden fence or timber gates. If you’re after a quality job that will stand the test of time, we’re the company for you!
